  You Decide: Top Things to do in Costa Rica La Paz Waterfall Gardens – La Paz Waterfall Gardens is located 1 hour from San Jose and just 20 minutes from the Poás Volcano. Here you will find all that you expect to experience in Costa Rica: lush Rainforests, majestic waterfalls, fluttering butterflies and whimsical hummingbirds. The Nature Park includes the butterfly observatory, the hummingbird garden and majestic waterfall trails. 
Arenal Volcano and Hot Springs – Located 3 1/2 hours from San Jose, this is the most active volcano in the whole country, and could be well be one of the highlights of your voyage in Costa Rica. Situated to the north of the capitol of San Juan, this area is home to caves, Lake Arenal, and the Hot springs, which are fed by the volcano. A full array of activities are offered in the area including canopy zip lines tours, nature walks, hikes to the volcano park, kayaking and horseback riding. 
Rainforest Exploration – Hikes and Hanging Bridges Costa Rica offers endless opportunities for nature exploration in several of its National Parks and Reserves. Many include suspension bridges which enable you to view the thousands of plants and wildlife high up in the rainforest canopy. With 878 species recorded to date, Costa Rica offers to birders great birdwatching opportunities within relatively short distances, involving very diverse habitats. Costa Rica’s flora is protected by a large system of national parks, which makes up for at least 20% of the country’s area. Thanks to these extensive protected areas, Costa Rica boasts more than 9,000 species of “higher plants”, and at least 800 species of ferns. Monkey Watching – Four species of monkeys can be seen in Costa Rica: the capuchin, howler, spider (mono titi) and squirrel monkeys. In some areas, such as Manuel Antonio monkeys can be spotted easily around the hotel grounds. It is extremely important not to feed them. The growth of tourism and development has had a serious effect their natural habitat. Beying awakened by the deep throaty sounds made by the howler monkeys is a beautiful element to the Costa Rican experience. 
White-river rafting / Kayaking – River-rafting and kayaking trips are offered all over Costa Rica on several of their rivers. Levels range from beginner (appropriate for young children)to Class V extreme rafting. It’s a wonderful way to take in the exotic landscape of the country and truly connect with the natural surroundings. Kayaking down the calmer portions of the river offer serene experiences ideal for nature viewing. 
Beachtime – Costa Rica offers an almost infinite number of beaches for tourist enjoyment. The coastline has a length of over 1800 km with a never-ending variety of beaches from rocky and stony, to white, gray, black and pink colored sand. Come to surf, swim, snorkel, SCUBA dive, or just relax in the warm, tropical sun. 
Surfing – Miles of beaches a vibrant, bustling waterfront and warm 85 degree water make the Pacific coast one of the top Costa Rica attractions and a perfect setting for some of the best surfing in the western hemisphere. 
Community Based Projects – Go beyond and learn about what goes on in the local communities and schools in Costa Rica. Projects involve environmental work such as reforestation and preservation of the rainforest to in-depth recycling and preservation of natural habitats.
